Subang Jaya Medical Centre clinches Healthcare Asia Awards 2024 for social impact initiatives

Their initiatives align with the larger Sustainable Development Goal on Good Health and Well-Being.

Private hospital Subang Jaya Medical Centre (SJMC) received the ESG Program of the Year - Malaysia category win at the recently held Healthcare Asia Awards 2024 for several of its initiatives that have contributed to the larger good of healthcare sustainability.

Amongst these initiatives include the Global Surgery Initiative (GSI), the first-of-its-kind public-private partnership in Malaysia with the Malaysian Society of Anaesthesiologists, backed by the Ministry of Health Malaysia, that showcases an unparalleled innovation in addressing healthcare disparities and transforming lives through bringing cutting-edge surgical interventions to underserved communities.

GSI has bridged the gap between anaesthesia and surgical care by collaborating with local communities in Sarawak. SJMC connects expert anaesthesiologists, surgeons, and nurses with patients in remote areas, performing more than 50 life-saving surgeries through two successful missions in rural areas.

SJMC has also championed preventive healthcare through its “If Not Now, When? #endcervicalcancer” community campaign with ROSE Foundation and SJ ECHO. Through strategic partnerships, the hospital offers free and easy DIY HPV screening, aligning with ESG values and prioritising the well-being of women in the community with this initiative.

Recognising the importance of strong nursing support as a backbone of healthcare, it aims to encourage nursing as a career through the “Nurse Quest: A Journey into Healthcare,” which provides students with hands-on nursing experience in partnership with an education media partner.

“SJMC exemplifies the values that define a socially responsible and forward-looking healthcare institution. These initiatives not only elevate the standards of healthcare provision but also serve as an inspiration for industry-wide positive change,” Bryan Lin, CEO of SJMC said.

Healthcare Asia Awards recognises exceptional healthcare providers that have redefined the standards of healthcare through their unwavering dedication to innovation, setting of new industry benchmarks, and substantial contributions to their communities.
