Emirates International Hospital clinches Health Promotion Initiative of the Year - UAE win at Healthcare Asia Awards

The campaigns are aimed to create an environment that supports lifestyle changes and facilitates healthy living.

Healthcare provider Emirates International Hospital bagged the Health Promotion Initiative of the Year - UAE at the recently held Healthcare Asia Awards for its health initiative “Healthy Al Ain, Happy Al Ain” which included activities such as ‘Al Ain Cyclothon,’ weight loss programme, and cancer screening awareness.

The cyclothon is a health programme that is aimed at raising awareness amongst the community about diabetes and the importance of physical activities to maintain a healthy life and enabling them to include such activities in their daily lives. The event, which recorded a high turnout, saw participants take part in a 23-km cycle rally organised in Al Ain City.

Meanwhile, the hospital also initiated a weight loss campaign that provides community awareness and motivates participation. It started with a consultation and communication with Al Ain Municipality to ensure maximum community participation. There were also attractive monetary prizes for the winners.

The programme comprised an initial physical assessment with dietary assessment, an individualised diet plan, periodic health checkups including diagnostics, periodic dietary consultation, yoga, Zumba dance, physical activities and social interaction. The trainers were specialists in their domain with specialised certification and training.

This campaign stems from the prediction of the World Health Organisation that 2-7%of global healthcare spending is attributed to high body mass index.

Lastly, Emirates International Hospital conducted a cancer awareness campaign for 100 days, with over 200 people registered for free breast and cervical cancer screening.

The breast cancer screening service included a doctor consultation with physical examination, cancer screening education, mammogram, follow-up visit after the mammogram report, ultrasound if suggested by the radiologist, and biopsy if required. Whilst, the cervical cancer screening included doctor consultation with physical examination, cancer screening education, pap smear, follow-up visit after the pap smear report, and biopsy if required.

Emirates International Hospital initiated population-based community approaches that connect people, families, schools, and municipalities. The campaign was not only targeting educational aspects but was also making changes towards shifting norms to create an environment that supports lifestyle changes and facilitates healthy eating and active living.

Healthcare Asia Awards aims to honour hospitals, clinics and other healthcare providers that have risen above the challenges and made a remarkable impact by innovating and reinventing initiatives to better serve patients and protect employees.
