Digital transformation in healthcare to accelerate due to COVID-19: Zebra

The report surveyed 500 senior-level hospital leaders.

Zebra Technologies released the Smarter, More Connected Hospitals global report last 16 September. It aims to help hospitals mobilise urgent care teams, automate workflows, and regain control of supply chains.

The report revealed 89% of executive decision-makers and 83% of clinicians surveyed agreed real-time intelligence is essential for optimal patient care. It also showed hospitals are increasingly investing in clinical mobility tools, real-time location systems, and intelligent workflow solutions to support smarter and more connected workflows.

Additionally, it revealed 75% plan to use location technologies, such as radio frequency identification, or RFID, to track equipment and specimens, and improve patient flow and security. It also reported 84% believed the quality of patient care would improve if nurses, physicians, and non-clinical healthcare workers had access to collaboration tools and the convenience of using their mobile devices to access healthcare applications.

"Location technologies and automation solutions are designed to help hospital administrators identify and eliminate workflow inefficiencies throughout the patient treatment process. Having the ability to identify, track, locate, and monitor the condition of every patient, staff, and asset is essential to improving front-line clinician workflows and providing quality patient care," said Southeast Asia Sales Vice President Christanto Suryadarma.

Zebra's Smarter, More Connected Hospitals global report used 500 responses from over 500 senior-level hospital leaders within the clinical, IT, and procurement disciplines. The study's goal was to understand the role of technology in acute care hospitals.
