World Bank, Global Fund sign MoU to strengthen primary healthcare

It will expand access to services for HIV, tuberculosis, and malaria.

The World Bank Group has signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with the Global Fund to strengthen primary healthcare and expand access to essential services for human immunodeficiency virus (HIV), tuberculosis, and malaria.

Through the MoU, both organisations will mobilise approximately $2b over the next three years in joint financing.

The partnership will support governments to strengthen sustainable financing, public financial management, and integrated primary health care by aligning external funding with national health plans.

It will also expand sustainable production capacity, improve access to quality-assured health products, and strengthen regulatory and supply chains.

Moreover, the MoU will focus on health workforce capacity, data and surveillance systems, laboratories, and the delivery of essential services across HIV, tuberculosis, malaria, and maternal and child health.
