Upcoming Bribie Island Satellite Hospital to provide infusion services

The treatment will be open for patients with chronic medical conditions.

Opening in July, the Bribie Island Satellite Hospital (Yarun) is set to provide specialist infusion services for patients with chronic conditions.

The new Day Medical Treatment Unity (DMTU), governed by Caboolture Hospital, will be staffed by registered nurses with specialised training in infusion and intravenous therapies.

Such treatments can be accessed by people with varying medical conditions such as neurologic disorders, respiratory ailments, haemoglobin and blood dysfunctions, as well as immune and iron deficiencies.

According to DMTU project lead, Lesley Murphy, the service was designed to provide close care access, reducing the need for patients to travel long distances.

“When new services are developed, we want to make sure the services we are creating are well-planned, responsive to community needs and, importantly, factor in every consideration from the beginning to the end of the patient journey,” Murphy said.
