Sunway Medical Centre, NIH ink MoU to advance Phase 1 clinical trials

Key initiatives include training, knowledge exchange, and joint branding efforts.

Malaysia’s Sunway Medical Centre (SMC), Sunway City has signed a memorandum of understanding with the National Institutes of Health (NIH), Ministry of Health, to advance medical research and Phase 1 clinical trials.

The partnership focuses on strengthening collaboration between public hospital-based Clinical Research Centres and SMC.

Moreover, it aims to create opportunities for training, knowledge exchange, and joint branding initiatives to boost Malaysia’s clinical research presence internationally.

Meanwhile, SMC is developing a dedicated Phase 1 Clinical Trial Unit within its facility. The unit is expected to be completed and accredited by 2026.

The on-site location of the trial unit will provide patients with easier access to clinical trials and novel therapies, said SMC CEO Seow Vei Ken.
