Princess Alexandra Hospital’s telehealth project to enhance gastro services

A video animation was unveiled for patients to assess their capabilities for an online appointment.

The Princess Alexandra Hospital in Australia has rolled out a video project aimed at improving telehealth appointments for Gastroenterology (Gastro) services.

Through a partnership with Telehealth Services, the hospital’s Gastro team unveiled an animation titled “Are you Ready for Telehealth – Video Call?’” to support patients in self-assessing their capability for an online appointment. 

All patients scheduled for a new telehealth video appointment at the trial clinic received the latest resource over a four-week implementation period. 

“We developed this resource with inclusivity and accessibility in mind, and it is clear from the results that it has had a positive impact,” Senior Telehealth Coordinator, Karen Lucas, said.

According to Clinical Nurse Consultant, Amanda Whaley, the hospital received less contact from medical officers and patients requesting support for telehealth video appointments.

Moreover, the overall number of appointments increased by 7.63%.

“It shows that the patient resource and clinical training from Telehealth Services is effective and impacts our workflows,” Whaley added.
