NICS building redevelopment begins in Launceston, Australia

The project includes the establishment of a Research and Innovation Centre.

Construction has commenced on the redevelopment of the Northern Integrated Care Service (NICS) building, part of the Launceston General Hospital (LGH) Precinct Masterplan, said the government.

The project includes establishing a Research and Innovation Centre within the NICS building and relocating the Sir John Ramsay Memorial Library there, freeing up additional space for clinical services in the main hospital.

The redevelopment will proceed in phases, beginning with renovations on the Ground Floor to provide office, meeting, and breakout areas for staff. Level 1 will follow, where research and library facilities will be housed.

The NICS will remain operational throughout construction, with completion expected by mid-2025.
