Australia invests $90.5m in Cessnock Hospital redevelopment

Construction is expected to begin in 2025.

The Australian government is allocating an additional $17.4m (A$26.5m) to the Cessnock Hospital redevelopment as part of the 2024-25 NSW Budget, bringing the total investment to $90.5m (A$138m).

The investment will support the delivery of additional facilities including an operating theatre and procedure room, a central sterilising services department, and a modern pharmacy.

Moreover, the redevelopment will include the construction of a new two-level acute services building, featuring an expanded emergency department, two inpatient wards with single and double bedrooms, a medical imaging service, and day surgery facilities.

Construction is expected to commence in 2025, following the appointment of a main works contractor.

Meanwhile, the project’s schematic design has been revealed, showcasing modern healthcare facilities and the expanded services to be offered.
