National Heart Centre Singapore launches Centre for Advanced Metabolic Imaging

The CAMI will focus on analysing fat distribution patterns unique to Asian populations.

The National Heart Centre Singapore (NHCS) has launched the Centre for Advanced Metabolic Imaging (CAMI) to study metabolic health and its impact on heart disease.

The CAMI will focus on analysing fat distribution patterns unique to Asian populations, which differ significantly from those observed in other ethnic groups, NHCS said.

The centre utilises magnetic resonance imaging (MRI) to provide high-resolution images of fat distribution in the body, including visceral fat around vital organs, which is closely linked to cardiovascular risks.

It also features the Carbon-13 Hyperpolariser that enhances the sensitivity of metabolic imaging by over 10,000-fold.

The tech allows real-time tracking of sugar metabolism for detailed insights into how different organs process nutrients into energy.
