Memory care centres open in three of Metro Manila’s top hospitals

The centres have neurological testing and other tailored innovative treatments.

Three of Metro Pacific Health’s hospitals will offer high-quality and patient-centric care for those with memory-related ailments through memory care centres (MCC).

Makati Medical Center (MMC), Cardinal Santos Medical Center (CSMC), and De Los Santos Medical Center, will open their MCCs to provide comprehensive care such as “neurological testing, innovative treatments tailored for each individual, crafted by multi-disciplinary medical teams, and supportive care management that offers resources and programmes.”

Michelle Anlacan, a leading adult neurologist and dementia specialist at Cardinal Santos Medical Center, said there should be more awareness around memory-related illnesses and their management.

“I think the most common misconception for treatment [of memory-related illnesses] is
that there is no treatment,” said Anlacan, in a statement.

“At Metro Pacific Health Memory Care Centers, we have several treatments available—with both pharmacological and non-pharmacological interventions—that will make life easier for both the patient and the family who is caring for them,” she added.

MCC in each hospital

CSMC Memory Center will promote quality of life in the elderly, and delay the progress of Alzheimer’s disease through its modern-day expertise in the brain and memory. 

“The Center aims to provide early detection and management of dementia and treat patients with cognitive impairment from brain injury and diseases,” read the statement.

Procedures included are Comprehensive Neurocognitive Workup, Medication Management, and
Cognitive Rehabilitation Programs.

Meanwhile, the Memory Plus Center of Makati Medical Center (MMC) is a sub-speciality clinic that offers comprehensive diagnostic evaluation, management, and treatment processes for people with complaints related to memory, cognitive impairment, and other behavioural or psychological concerns associated with neurodegenerative brain disorders. 

The Memory Center of De Los Santos Medical Center also provides expert consultations, evaluations, and treatment recommendations to monitor and improve behavioural and mental wellness. 

The hospital performs memory screening and memory assessment – open to all those who are concerned about their current mental well-being.
