India develops AI tool to enhance tuberculosis detection

DeepCXR uses AI in analysing chest X-ray films.

The Indian Council of Medical Research (ICMR), in partnership with the Institute of Plasma Research, Ahmedabad, has developed an artificial intelligence-based tool for analysing chest X-ray films for tuberculosis (TB) diagnosis.

The tool, DeepCXR, is expected to improve the detection of presumptive TB patients and facilitate quicker treatment initiation.

Meanwhile, the ICMR has validated three indigenous handheld X-ray devices designed for portability and minimal radiation exposure.

The council also validated a skin test developed by Serum Institute of India Ltd. for detecting latent TB infection.
