Hong Kong’s first Chinese Medicine hospital to begin services in December
It is expected to provide full inpatient services by the end of 2030.
The Chinese Medicine Hospital of Hong Kong (CMHHK) at 1 Pak Shing Kok Road in Tseung Kwan O will begin phased operations on 11 December.
It is the first hospital in Hong Kong to provide predominantly Chinese medicine (CM) services. According to Secretary for Health Prof Lo Chung-mau, the facility will extend CM services beyond primary care into secondary and tertiary healthcare.
The CMHHK is expected to provide full inpatient services, involving 400 patient beds, by the end of 2030.
The hospital will provide outpatient and day-patient services and will launch six specialised CM services in its first year.
These services include internal medicine, external medicine, gynaecology, paediatrics, orthopaedics and traumatology, and acupuncture and moxibustion in CM.
The facility will also provide 12 special disease programmes, including those for elderly degenerative diseases and stroke rehabilitation.
Outpatient services will include both government-subsidised and market-oriented options. The former will cover general, specialised and integrated allied health clinics, while the latter will consist of private and integrated allied health clinics.
Day-patient services will likewise comprise subsidised and market-oriented options, with 25 beds available in the first year for patients requiring longer or more complex treatment.
Meanwhile, inpatient services will mainly start from the second year.
