Dynamic regional healthcare landscape to pose challenge for budding Thailand healthcare
It will have to contend with Singapore and Malaysia.
Thailand may be shaping up into a medical tourism hub, but it’s not without fierce competition.
According to a report by BMI Research, it will have to contend with established healthcare hubs Singapore and Malaysia, as well as the rise of new medical tourism destinations such as South Korea.
Additionally, downside risks also stem from the evolving healthcare landscape as private healthcare providers reach out into emerging markets and government policies shape patient incentives to travel abroad for medical treatment.
“The latter has come to the fore following Bumrungrad International Hospital's Q216 results announcement which cited a 10% year-on-year drop in the number of Middle East patients, particularly medical tourists from the UAE,” BMI Research added.
