Development application lodged for Launceston’s Northern Heart Centre

Construction is expected to begin in early 2026.

A development application for the $77m (A$120m) Northern Heart Centre at Launceston General Hospital has been submitted to the City of Launceston, according to the Australian government.

A concept design, developed in consultation with cardiac health service representatives, includes direct access to the main hospital, an external screen for sun protection and privacy, and a sheltered public drop-off and pick-up area.

The centre will provide a 24-bed cardiac inpatient unit, two cardiac catheterisation laboratories, and dedicated diagnostic testing and monitoring facilities.

Construction is expected to begin in early 2026 and be completed in 2029.
