Davao Doctors Hospital performs first transcatheter aortic valve implantation

TAVI offers faster recovery and reduced discomfort compared to traditional open-heart surgery.

Philippines’ Davao Doctors Hospital (DDH) has successfully completed its first Transcatheter Aortic Valve Implantation (TAVI), a minimally invasive procedure for treating aortic valve stenosis.

TAVI offers faster recovery and reduced discomfort compared to traditional open-heart surgery, making it ideal for high-risk patients.  It also significantly improves symptoms like shortness of breath and chest pain.

DDH’s successful TAVI procedure highlights its commitment to advanced cardiac care and offers new hope for patients who cannot undergo conventional surgery.

The procedure, led by Erwin Janniño Ybañez, was supported by a team that included Jerome Blaya, Karl Fernando Franco, Raymund Darius Liberato, and E. Posas from St. Luke’s Medical Center – BGC.

Thoracic surgeons Josel Rey Aguelo and Jaysum Val Ligue, along with anesthesiologists Catherine Gonzales and Dr. Philip Valencia, also assisted.
