Canberra Hospital enhances imaging with new PET/CT and SPECT/CT scanners

These additions are part of Canberra Hospital's $10.4m imaging upgrade.

Canberra Hospital has adopted new nuclear medicine machines, including a PET/CT scanner, a SPECT/CT scanner, and a Gamma Camera for diagnostic imaging and organ function assessments.

These additions are part of the $10.4m (A$15.8m) “More Public Medical Imaging Services at Canberra Hospital” project, which also involves upgrading CT, MRI, and fluoroscopy equipment.

Minister for Health Rachel Stephen-Smith said this initiative is expected to enhance patient flow through emergency and oncology services, potentially reducing the need for repeat scans.

Additionally, the equipment offers manoeuvrability for patients with mobility issues and features custom wraparound artwork in one nuclear suite to help ease anxiety.
