Australian gov’t invests $4.2m to expand rare cancer portal

The funding will allow a pilot service for remote areas in Queensland.

The government is investing $4.2m (A$6.7m) to expand the Australian Rare Cancer Portal, which provides expert advice from local and international specialists on rare and less common cancers.

The investment will allow for a pilot in Queensland to service people in remote areas through a partnership with Cancer Alliance Queensland.

Patients referred to the portal can receive opinions on their diagnosis and management. They can also get evidence-based information, guidance on molecular testing and interpretation of results, and access to clinical trials.

A$1 = $0.63
