Australian gov’t invests $1.8m for paediatric palliative care in NSW
Twelve local health districts and specialist health networks received additional funding.
The Australian government is investing an additional $1.8m (A$2.8m) for paediatric palliative care and end-of-life care services across New South Wales.
Twelve local health districts and specialist health networks have received additional funding to strengthen specialist care and improve physical spaces.
Planned improvements include the creation of multi-functional, home-like spaces, bereavement support, maternity services, and post-death care. These areas will also cater to children with chronic and complex medical needs.
In addition, the investment will cover cosmetic upgrades, refurbishments, and general maintenance of special care nurseries, paediatric wards, and associated facilities.
Furthermore, a portion of the funding will support education and training programmes for healthcare professionals.
This funding is part of the government’s $50.8m (A$80m) investment to paediatric palliative care, to be distributed over four years from 2023–24 to 2026–27.
