Australian gov’t expands breast screening services in WA

A new mobile van is expected to benefit an additional 5,000 women annually.

The government is expanding breast cancer screening across Western Australia (WA) with an additional $938.7k (A$1.4m) mobile van to the BreastScreen WA fleet.

Health Minister Amber-Jade Sanderson said the new van is expected to provide screening services to an additional 5,000 women annually.

Women aged 40 and over with no symptoms are eligible for a free screening mammogram, with more than 75% of breast cancer cases occurring for those over 50.

"Screening every two years is vitally important to increase the chance of breast cancer being detected when it is too small to feel or be noticed,” Sanderson said.
