Australia unveils $10.4m redevelopment plan for Whyalla Hospital
This includes an upgraded emergency department and high-dependency unit.
Australia has announced a $10.4m (A$15.4m) investment dedicated to the redevelopment of the Whyalla Hospital and Health Service set to start this year.
The hospital’s planned upgrades involve adding 12 new treatment bays in its emergency department (ED), which represents a 70% increase.
Moreover, new facilities include a negative pressure isolation room, two behavioural assessment rooms for patients in distress, and a triage and assessment zone.
Meanwhile, the hospital’s high-dependency unit will be included in the redevelopment, with six beds being moved to a space immediately adjacent to the ED.
Furthermore, staged works will include new waiting rooms and reception areas, pathways designed to transfer patients into operating theatres, and acute care wards.
Redevelopment work is slated for completion by the end of 2025 whilst the hospital’s services will continue its operations throughout the period.
