Australia passes aged care reform bill ahead of new Act
It implements 58 Royal Commission recommendations.
The Australian Government has passed the Aged Care and Other Legislation Amendment Bill in Parliament.
The reforms implement 58 recommendations of the Royal Commission into Aged Care Quality and Safety and provide faster access to care for older Australians.
“This legislation is the final piece of the puzzle that paves the way for the commencement of the new Aged Care Act, and our new Support at Home programme,” said Minister for Aged Care and Seniors Sam Rae.
Ahead of the Act’s implementation, the government will deliver 20,000 Home Care Packages over the next eight weeks.
Meanwhile, an additional 63,000 ‘Support at Home’ places will be made available by 30 June 2026.
