Australia invests $5.55b to expand bulk billing

GPs in Victoria will receive incentives for every patient they bulk bill.

The Australian Government has announced a $5.55b (A$8.5b) investment in Medicare, aimed at increasing bulk billing and the number of doctors.

Under the package, general practitioners (GPs) in Victoria, including Calwell, will receive incentives for every patient they bulk bill.

Previously, these incentives applied only to children under 16 and concession card holders.

The government projects that nine out of ten GP visits will be bulk billed by 2030, increasing the number of fully bulk billed practices nationally to approximately 4,800.
