Australia invests $11m for increased bed capacity at Lyell McEwin Hospital

A total of 20 new beds are slated for construction this year.

The Australian government is set to invest $11m (A$16.5m) in the 2024-25 State Budget to increase Lyell McEwin Hospital’s bed capacity.

The construction of 20 extra acute beds is due to start this year, replacing an administration area at the hospital.

Moreover, this development adds to the 48 new beds under construction at the hospital in North Adelaide and 23 extra emergency department treatment areas recently opened.

Meanwhile, the government will also allocate $9.1m (A$13.7m) to bring 36 medical and surgical beds to the Queen Elizabeth Hospital.

The extra beds will be opened in the hospital’s North East Building along with new facilities for outpatient services currently utilising the area.
