Australia to expand Medicare coverage on gynaecologist consultations
An investment of $32.4m (A$49.1m) will allow longer consultations for patients with complex gynaecological conditions.
The Australian government is set to invest $32.4m (A$49.1m) for patients experiencing endometriosis and complex gynaecological conditions to access longer specialist consultations.
Starting 1 July 2025, two new items will be added to the Medicare Benefits Schedule (MBS), allowing for longer consultation times and increased rebates.

“This new MBS listing will mean women with complex gynaecological conditions receive the attention and care they deserve, and sooner.” Assistant Minister for Health and Aged Care, Ged Kearney, said.
The items include an initial fee of $111.33 (A$168.60) will be provided for a gynaecologist consultation lasting a minimum of 45 minutes.
Meanwhile, subsequent 45-minute consultations are set at a fee of $55.7 (A$84.35), compared to the standard rate of $31.7 (A$48.05).
