Australia to boost Queensland healthcare with new four-year trial
Trainees will be directly employed by the state government and will receive guaranteed income.
Australia will launch a four-year trial in February to support up to 60 full-time equivalent general practitioner and rural generalist trainees in regional and rural Queensland.
The 'Single-Employer Model' trial will be implemented across particular areas from the state’s Northern, Central, and Southern regions.
Under the model, trainees will be directly employed by the state government instead of changing employers with each new placement every six to 12 months.
Moreover, the trial will give graduates guaranteed income and entitlements such as annual leave, parental leave, sick leave and other benefits received by doctors training in hospital settings.
