Kan Thar Yar International Specialist Hospital clinches Hospital of the Year Award for Myanmar

The hospital has the tools to provide world-class cardiac care to Burmese people.

Kan Thar Yar International Specialist Hospital's notable role in Myanmar's best private cardiac hospital seeks to provide the country with international standard services as the risk of cardiovascular diseases (CVD) continues to grow in Southeast Asia.

Kan Thar Yar International Specialist Hospital took home Myanmar's Hospital of the Year Award in the recently concluded Healthcare Asia Awards.

Responding to the country's need for improved healthcare services, the hospital grabbed the opportunity to offer patients avant-garde and up-to-date medical equipment, diagnostic centres and laboratories along with its experienced medical professionals.

Ever since its doors opened in December 2017, Kan Thar Yar International Specialist Hospital has been dedicated to providing its patients high-quality medical aid, setting the standard for outstanding cardiac health care and patient safety whilst recognising the pressing issue of CVDs.

As of 2019, CVDs continue to be the leading cause of death worldwide and in Myanmar.

Despite the progress of medicine in the last 25 years in the cardiac field, deaths continue to occur  because of these non-communicable diseases, with latest data tallying 17.5 million fatalities per year.

Despite this trend and the client demand in major hospitals in cities such as Yangon and Mandalay, Myanmar cardiac services are currently limited.

Long waiting lists for surgeries and procedures, insufficient beds and shortage of heart surgeons have also become hallmark problems of Myanmar hospitals.

These roadblocks have largely influenced deserving patients and piled up cases upon cases of cardiac problems.

Because of increasing in healthcare services, Myanmar people who can afford to go abroad for medical tourism seek their health treatment in neighbouring countries, such as Thailand, Malaysia, Singapore and India. This solution costs millions of dollars and can only be done by select privileged individuals.

Whilst the government has promised to ram up more efforts to significantly add to the limited number of specialist medical service providers, build new facilities and strengthen the talent pool, Kan Thar Yar's doors remain open for patients who require its world-class services.

The Healthcare Asia Awards 2019 was held on May 23, 2019 at the Conrad Centennial Singapore.

This year's nominations were judged by a panel consisting of Abhay Bangi, Partner, Life Sciences & Healthcare Lead, Ernst & Young; Dr. Loke Wait Chiong Executive Director, Healthcare Sector Leader, Deloitte; Dr. Zubin Daruwalla, Director, SEAC Health Industries Leader, PwC; Chin Chee Choon, Advisory Leader, Nexia TS; and Willy Leow, Partner, Risk Advisory Services, BDO LLP.
