Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital bags Management Innovation of the Year Award
Gleneagles Hong Kong Hospital, Hong Kong’s newest private hospital in over 20 years, aspires to help shape the city’s private health care through innovation, transparency and high-quality services.
By changing the game in the city's private health sector through transparent and innovative medical packages and exceptional services, Gleneagles Hong Kong has won the Management Innovation of the Year Award at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2019.
Acknowledging the lack of price transparency in private hospitals in Hong Kong, Gleneagles Hong Kong aims to play a complementary role in the government’s efforts in transforming healthcare and alleviating the city's overburdened public health care system by pioneering all-inclusive, fixed-price medical packages. With these packages, the hospital introduces fee transparency and certainty to build people’s confidence in using private health care. Package prices cover all relevant charges, including doctor’s fee, anaesthesia, procedures, operating theatre, nursing care, medications, equipment, consumables, implants, meals, room, and intensive care and necessary re-operation.
In the past 22 months, the total number of medical packages of common procedures offered by the hospital has been increased from 50 to over 120, with utilization having grown by approximately three times from 2017 to 2018. Patient satisfaction has also been highly positive and the hospital is looking to further expand its package portfolio this year to include other conditions such as heart diseases and more complex procedures.
To make transparent, high-quality health care more accessible to the public, Gleneagles Hong Kong also forged innovative partnerships with major insurance companies so that these packages are fully or mostly covered by ward-class insurance plans. Likewise, Gleneagles Hong Kong is currently the only hospital in Hong Kong to introduce fee advisory service to patients who are informed of and oriented on the estimated bill size before admission.
Gleneagles Hong Kong is also the first private hospital in Hong Kong that adopted a private-academic operating model, thanks to its clinical partnership with The University of Hong Kong. This union brings together expertise, quality service and strong clinical governance, ensuring the highest professional standards along with excellent practices and commendable patient care.
With its innovative operating model, all-inclusive package concept as well as quality services, Gleneagles Hong Kong is set to be a key figure in bringing a lasting, demonstrating effect in Hong Kong's private health care industry. Leading by example, Gleneagles Hong Kong hopes that other hospitals will follow suit in order to lift the pressure from the city's public health sector.
