Healthcare collaborations to enhance diabetes mgmt in Singapore

The country is facing a growing burden of diabetes due to an ageing population and obesity.

Collaborations between healthcare providers and tech firms are paving the way for enhanced diabetes management in Singapore, in response to the condition’s growing burden, said GlobalData.

In a recent development, SingHealth Polyclinics (SHP) and the Ministry of Health Office for Healthcare Transformation (MOHT) introduced OPTIMUM, a telemonitoring platform.

The platform uses Bluetooth-enabled devices to track health metrics such as glucose and blood pressure levels, while also providing educational content, teleconsultations, and real-time feedback.

Currently, the country is facing growing challenges related to diabetes due to an ageing population, changing lifestyles, and obesity, whilst traditional approaches lack real-time monitoring leading to delayed treatment plan adjustments.

Meanwhile, Kanchan Chauhan, a Medical Devices Analyst at GlobalData said that the SHP-MOHT partnership highlights how digital innovations can bridge this gap for improved outcomes.

“Singapore’s innovative diabetes care initiatives showcase how technology and collaboration can reshape chronic disease management,” Chauhan added.
