Thailand’s private hospitals hop on in Myanmar’s nascent healthcare market

Myanmar’s next door neighbor might be getting closer.

Myanmar may soon get an influx of private hospitals from their next door neighbour as analysts say Thai hospitals are expected to be the most active in expanding into the country’s market.

According to a report by BMI Research, due to the countries’ geographic proximity, many Burmese patients have been travelling to Thailand to seek medical treatment.

“In H115, 9% of the revenue contribution for Bumrungrad Hospital came from Myanmar citizens and 2% for Bangkok Dusit Medical Services for the same period,” BMI Research said.

BMI Research adds that establishing a presence in the country will thus serve to advance the accessibility of Burmese patients to Thai private hospitals.

“Moreover, this provides opportunities for Thai healthcare providers to use Myanmarbased facilities as referral centres for the main hospital in Thailand,” BMI Research said.
