Southern Medicare takes home two wins at Healthcare Asia Awards 2025

It bagged the Health and Wellness Initiative of the Year - Malaysia and the Employee Engagement of the Year - Malaysia recognitions.

Southern Medicare was hailed at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 for the success of its hospital, Sri Kota Specialist Medical Centre (SKSMC), in implementing a wide array of community health initiatives, as well as prioritising employee well-being through a holistic approach that focusses on health, safety, and engagement.

Amongst SKSMC’s community health initiatives is the Annual Sihat Fest, which provides free health screenings, benefitting over 10,000 residents of Klang since 2022. These screenings include essential tests such as blood pressure checks, blood glucose tests, cholesterol tests, and body composition analysis.

Attendees of the event have the opportunity to consult with SKSMC’s Specialist doctors, who offer personalised advice and medical guidance. By offering these services, Sihat Fest has significantly raised awareness of the importance of early health checks and preventive care.

Furthermore, SKSMC’s commitment to supporting vulnerable groups extends to children through its “Sunathon 2024” initiative. This circumcision programme provides free circumcisions for 25 boys from local orphanages and the surrounding community.

Since January 2024, the centre has organised 46 health campaigns in various community settings, such as schools, shopping malls, police stations, corporate offices, and municipal buildings. SKSMC has also conducted onsite health talks for stakeholders and Basic Life Support demonstrations at schools to raise awareness about various health issues and emergency preparedness.

“These sessions focus on teaching young people about preventing illness, healthy habits, and how to respond in life-threatening situations. By equipping students with these life-saving skills, SKSMC ensures that future generations are well-prepared to handle emergencies and prioritise their health,” it said.

Additionally, SKSMC conducted free comprehensive wellness screenings for 250 senior citizens (aged 60 years and over) at RM 550 for each individual. This amounts to a total of RM 137,500.

In 2024, the total contributions made through CSR efforts amounted to about RM 505,0000.

For the success of its community-related initiatives, Southern Medicare won the Health and Wellness Initiative of the Year - Malaysia category.

Meanwhile, SKSMC’s employee well-being initiatives have fostered a supportive environment and have strengthened community ties. Some of these initiatives include its flagship BMI Weight Loss Programme that has inspired healthier lifestyles amongst employees. Over a 90-day period, they achieved remarkable results, with transformations such as 15-kilogram weight loss.

The hospital has also provided free influenza vaccines to all employees, safeguarding their health during outbreaks. Health awareness talks, screenings, and anti-smoking campaigns have also been organised to empower employees to make informed health decisions.

It has also launched several events to enhance employee safety awareness, including its Safety Week where employees have engaged in interactive activities on topics such as fall prevention, sharp injury, and radiation safety, as well as its Hand Hygiene Day that features activities in encouraging hygiene practices.

“At SKSMC, we believe that employee well-being is the cornerstone of a thriving organisation. Our holistic approach prioritises health, safety, and engagement, fostering a supportive environment where our employees can flourish. Through targeted initiatives, we have achieved remarkable progress in employee health, safety awareness, and engagement,” Madam Tan, Hospital Director said.

In 2024, SKSCM recorded a total of 45,000 hours of training (internal & external) for a total number of 450 staff.

Southern Medicare earned the Employee Engagement of the Year - Malaysia category win for its success in enhancing employee well-being.
