Saigon Eye Hospital Chain (SGEH) receives accolades at Healthcare Asia Awards 2026
SGEH continues to affirm its position as the largest specialty eye hospital system in Vietnam, providing ophthalmic solutions to millions of domestic and international patients.
Saigon Eye Hospital Chain (SGEH) received two recognitions at the Healthcare Asia Awards 2026, with the Specialty Hospital of the Year (Ophthalmology) - Vietnam and Technology Innovation of the Year - Vietnam. This marks the fourth consecutive year (2023–2026) that SGEH has been honoured at this prestigious regional event. The recognition reflects the hospital system’s position as the largest specialty network in Vietnam and its success in providing high-quality eye care to millions of patients from both Vietnam and overseas.
Expanding ophthalmic care through a nationwide specialty hospital system
As the leading specialty hospital system in Vietnam, Saigon Eye Hospital Chain (SGEH) operates 21 ophthalmic facilities across 13 provinces and cities in Vietnam after more than 21 years of development. The network functions as a specialty hospital system focused on diagnosis, surgical treatment, and long-term eye care across different age groups.
In 2025, SGEH recorded 772,606 outpatient visits and 113,489 successful surgeries, the highest annual volume since the organisation’s establishment. These figures underscore SGEH’s role as a trusted provider of advanced ophthalmic solutions for millions of domestic patients, overseas Vietnamese, and international tourists seeking world-class medical services in Vietnam.
The hospital system applies a vision care framework covering prevention, personalised correction, treatment, and long-term monitoring. Programmes include school-based myopia screening, AI-assisted refractive procedures, cataract surgery, and treatment of glaucoma, vitreoretinal conditions, strabismus, and paediatric ophthalmic diseases. Electronic medical records within the MSG Care application allow patient data access across facilities to support continuity of care.
The organisation also contributes to clinical research and medical training. In the past year, clinicians presented more than 70 scientific reports across over 30 domestic and international conferences, whilst the Medical Saigon Group Scientific Conference gathered more than 400 experts and specialists.
Scaling blade-free cataract surgery across Vietnam
Cataracts remain the leading cause of preventable blindness amongst people aged 50 and above in Vietnam. More than 1.2 million individuals require cataract treatment annually, yet many delay surgery due to concerns related to surgical procedures.
SGEH introduced No-Blade Phaco surgery, a femtosecond laser-assisted cataract procedure designed to perform lens fragmentation using laser technology instead of manual surgical blades. The procedure was implemented through structured clinical training, standardised protocols, and system-wide rollout across hospitals.
The programme expanded from three hospitals in Ho Chi Minh City in March 2025 to eight hospitals across Vietnam within nine months. By December 2025, SGEH recorded 4,500 completed procedures under the programme.
Clinical outcomes from the initiative showed a 98.9% wound recovery rate within three days after surgery. More than 65% of patients who received treatment for one eye proceeded with surgery for the second eye following the initial procedure. The hospital system also recorded a 720% increase in monthly procedure volume during the first nine months of the programme, alongside a 42% year-on-year increase in the premium treatment segment and a 12% increase in total Phaco surgery volume.
