MedEthix Inc earns two accolades at Healthcare Asia Pharma Awards 2025

The company was honoured for bridging the information gap on endometriosis.

MedEthix Inc emerged as the recipient of the Hospital Partnership of the Year - Philippines and Most Differentiated Service of the Year - Philippines categories at the Healthcare Asia Pharma Awards 2025.

The two accolades were in commendation of its MedEthix Endometriosis Masterclass (MEM) which pioneers hands-on training for sonologists in the Philippines.

Endometriosis is a painful and often debilitating condition that can significantly affect a woman’s quality of life, with symptoms such as chronic pelvic pain and infertility. Unfortunately, studies show that it takes an average of 6.5 years for women to receive a proper diagnosis, largely because chronic pelvic pain is often dismissed as just dysmenorrhea (painful menstruation). Many women only seek help when the pain becomes unbearable or infertility becomes a concern.

Obstetrician-sonologists in the Philippines are skilled at scanning pregnant patients, although there is still a gap in diagnosing and managing gynaecological conditions like endometriosis. This knowledge gap is addressed through the MEM.

MEM is now in its third year, setting the standard for Continuing Medical Education (CME) programmes. In partnership with the Rizal Medical Center (RMC) Section of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology, MEM offers an innovative approach that brings real-world learning directly to sonologists. It incorporates actual patients into the programme and ensures hands-on and practical training that goes beyond traditional classroom learning.

Unlike other CME programmes, MEM offers practical sessions in which sonologists learn through didactic lectures and actual patient cases. Delegates gain hands-on experience by diagnosing and managing patients, which strengthens their clinical skills and prepares them for real-life scenarios.

This unique programme is led by Dr Nelinda Catherine P. Pangilinan, a renowned sonologist and current chair of the International Society of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (ISUOG). The faculty also includes esteemed consultants from the RMC Department of Obstetrics and Gynecology and its Section of Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology. The team also has a strong reputation in the Philippines, with support from three former presidents of the Philippine Society for Ultrasound in Obstetrics and Gynecology (PSUOG).

MedEthix hosts an intensive two-day CME programme twice a year, in which 16 carefully selected doctor delegates and 16 patients are invited to participate. During the programme, patients receive a diagnosis and treatment for endometriosis, whilst delegates gain hands-on experience in diagnosing and managing the condition.
The programme selects delegates from underserved areas across the country to ensure that medical services are received by communities that are ultimately in need. 

MedEthix aims to expand the programme to cover the entire PSUOG membership. By continuing to grow the MedEthix Endometriosis Masterclass, more Filipino women will receive the care they need for endometriosis.
