Generika Drugstore wins at Healthcare Asia Pharma Awards 2026
Community health programme drives trust in generics and sustained health-seeking behaviour.
Generika Drugstore won Community Initiative of the Year - Philippines in the Healthcare Asia Pharma Awards 2026 for advancing access to affordable generic medicines and basic healthcare services in underserved communities. Its flagship programme Ginhawang Barangayan, is part of Generika Drugstore’s business advocacy that aims to help empower communities to take better care of their health as it responds to persistent low health priority, high out-of-pocket spending, and distrust in generics amongst many Filipinos.
Ginhawang Barangayan delivers an integrated on-ground service model that combines Libreng Konsulta (Free Consultation) with partner doctors, free medicines, generics awareness and education sessions (GenTalks), and on-site enrolment to GeneriKard, the company’s loyalty and rewards programme. By working closely with community-based organisations such as transport groups, homeowners' associations, senior citizen groups, and school-based organisations, the programme ensures direct and transparent engagement with beneficiaries.
“Prioritising health today helps guarantee your own and your family’s future without compromises. With Generika Drugstore, customers can feel ginhawa (relief) because staying healthy is made more affordable, accessible, and effective for Filipinos across different communities,” said Adrian Gino Guinto, President and Chief Executive Officer of Generika Drugstore.
In 2025, the initiative completed 20 community runs and served more than 3,000 Filipinos with a 98% customer satisfaction rating. Survey results also show that almost all respondents stated they will consider buying from Generika Drugstore, and agreed that the programme strengthened their belief in the efficacy and quality of generic medicines.
The programme links social investment with measurable behaviour change. Almost 2,000 participants enrolled in GeneriKard during Ginhawang Barangayan, where a significant portion of them continued their medication using Generika Drugstore’s products well after the events.
Beyond one-off medical missions, Ginhawang Barangayan promotes sustained engagement. Newly enrolled members receive follow-through communication, and monthly Libreng Konsulta sessions in stores reinforce continued access to affordable care. The programme also contributed to overall brand health, putting Generika Drugstore at an all-time high consideration in 2025, based on quantitative market research by NielsenIQ.
Generika Drugstore is part of AC Health Pharma Ventures under AC Health, the healthcare arm of Ayala Corporation that aims to provide Filipinos access to affordable, quality healthcare.
