Avisena Specialist Hospital hailed at Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 for gastroenterology innovations
It has seen an 80% patient census growth due to the customer’s trust in its gastroenterology expertise.
Avisena Specialist Hospital received the Specialty Hospital of the Year (Gastroenterology) - Malaysia category win at the coveted Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 for achieving exceptional clinical outcomes and consistently demonstrating high success rates in treating complex gastrointestinal conditions.
This is enabled by the company’s continuous integration of advanced technologies to enhance patient outcomes. Amongst these is its implementation of single-use endoscope accessories, which has improved infection control. Meanwhile, its upgraded Olympus and Fuji scopes ensure top-tier diagnostics.
The company’s artificial intelligence (AI)-assisted polyp detection initiative that is set to enable advanced early cancer detection, along with the use of the Boston Bowel Prep Score for precise colonoscopy diagnostics, is set to be implemented in 2025.
Additionally, the Operation Theatre Management System (OTMS), developed internally by the hospital’s software analysts and support team, has streamlined surgical workflows. OTMS is easily accessible by surgeons and has improved scheduling efficiency, increasing daycare utilisation to 75% in 2024.
Avisena Specialist Hospital’s patient census has grown by 80%, from 1,912 cases in 2023 to 2,738 in 2024, reflecting trust in its expertise. A peak of 358 daycare cases in October 2024, featuring a 117.8% utilisation, underscores its efficiency, alongside optimised recovery times through streamlined workflows.
Prioritising patient experience, the company has also achieved an 89% Customer Satisfaction Score (CSS) and a 72% Net Promoter Score (NPS), compared to the industry benchmark of 95% CSS and 65% NPS, respectively. Comprehensive wellness packages, such as combined OGDS and colonoscopy screenings, improve accessibility.
Meanwhile, its outreach extends beyond the hospital through GP talks, symposiums, and educational sessions. Initiatives like the Colorectal Cancer Awareness Campaign in March 2024, held with its colorectal surgeon, have boosted early screenings. Similarly, its GERD Awareness Campaign has increased community knowledge of gastroesophageal health.
Collaborations with corporate organisations, insurance providers, and student bodies have further promoted preventative diagnostics and holistic gastroenterology care, contributing to a 35% increase in the patient census for gastroenterology daycare cases from 2023 to 2024.
“Avisena Specialist Hospital’s gastroenterology services excel in clinical outcomes, innovation, patient care, and community impact. Our 80% patient census growth from 2023 to 2024 showcases our dedication to high-quality care and cutting-edge advancements in gastroenterology, setting new benchmarks in specialty healthcare,” the company said.
