Mindray deploys digital tools to ease manpower strain

M-Connect enables remote monitoring to ease hospital workload and boost patient care.

Healthcare systems across Southeast Asia are grappling with rising costs and severe manpower shortages—issues that are significantly disrupting hospital operations, said Emily Choong, Strategic Key Account Manager for Malaysia and Singapore at Mindray Medical (M).

Speaking at The Health Industry Series – ASEAN in Malaysia, Choong said digitalisation is key. “There’s nobody to talk to because all the nurses and doctors are with patients… It’s our responsibility to provide sustainable innovation that keeps up with trends without raising healthcare costs.”

Mindray’s response is M-Connect, a digital platform that allows nurses to monitor and adjust infusion status remotely. “If I have ten beds, I don’t need to enter each room. I can view and manage the data from the patient monitor,” Choong said.

This saves time and reduces the strain on understaffed teams. “We bring the technology to providers, rather than make them run to the tech,” she added.

Mindray also integrates clinical tools like early warning scores to alert nurses before a patient deteriorates. “These predictive tools help nurses act early, even when they’re short-staffed,” Choong said.
