Immunotherapy boom drives demand for PET/CT imaging in Australia’s oncology sector
Australia accounted for 2% of the APAC PET/CT market in 2025.
Australia’s PET/CT systems market is expected to grow at a 5% compound annual growth rate from 2025 to 2035, driven by rising cancer cases and increasing demand for immunotherapy and precision medicine, according to GlobalData.
The report noted that Australia accounted for 2% of the Asia-Pacific PET/CT systems market in 2025.
In May 2026, Monash University, in partnership with The Alfred, announced the launch of the Australian Cancer Research Foundation Centre for Dynamic Immuno-Oncology (CDIO).
The center aims to strengthen cancer research, accelerate immunotherapy development, and advance precision oncology through enhanced imaging and clinical trial capabilities.
The newly established facility will utilise Quadra PET/CT technology alongside immuno-oncology research to support the development of more precise and targeted cancer treatment strategies.
Shamreen Parween, medical devices analyst at GlobalData, said the increasing focus on early-stage cancer detection and precision medicine is elevating the role of advanced imaging technologies such as Quadra PET/CT systems in oncology.
“These imaging systems enable comprehensive tumor evaluation, facilitate informed clinical decision-making, and optimize therapeutic planning, thereby contributing to improved clinical outcomes and patient survival,” she said. “Furthermore, sustained investment in diagnostic imaging is expected to strengthen the country’s advanced imaging capabilities within the broader healthcare landscape.”
The collaboration is expected to create new opportunities for translational medicine, improve access to clinical studies, and support the development of enhanced treatment approaches.
The report also said the initiative also reinforces Australia’s efforts to expand its biomedical research capacity and attract further investment and partnerships across the life sciences and healthcare sectors.
“Continued adoption of advanced imaging technologies is expected to strengthen Australia’s clinical capacity and medical imaging expertise,” Parween said. “In the coming years, these advancements may further elevate the country’s role in the APAC healthcare and imaging landscape.”
