Imaging upgrades fuel Australia's CT scanner market growth to 2035

Australia’s computed tomography (CT) systems market is projected to expand at a compound annual growth rate (CAGR) of 3% through 2035, driven by the country’s healthcare and imaging modernisation.

According to GlobalData, market growth is also being driven by more accurate pulmonary diagnostics and expanding safer imaging options.

In 2025, Australia accounted for 4% of the Asia-Pacific CT systems market.

In a related development, 4DMedical has recently received regulatory approval in Australia to launch CT-VQ, its non-contrast ventilation–perfusion (V/Q) imaging solution.

GlobalData noted that this will enable clinicians to assess regional lung function without the use of contrast agents, radiotracers, or use of nuclear medicine-specific infrastructure.

“This is significant because it allows Australian clinicians to use a non-contrast method to evaluate ventilation and perfusion, which can be especially valuable for patients who may not be suitable for contrast-based imaging,” Priyanka Chakraborty, medical devices analyst at GlobalData, said.

Additionally, the approval will support hospitals and radiology providers with a lower-risk respiratory diagnostic option that streamlines workflow and delivers functional lung insights.
