New SPECT-CT scanner installed at Wellington Regional Hospital

It replaces an older model and will work alongside a recently installed unit.

A new single-photon emission computed tomography-computed tomography (SPECT-CT) scanner has been installed at Wellington Regional Hospital in New Zealand.

The new scanner replaces an older model and will operate alongside a recently installed unit, according to Health Minister Simeon Brown.

SPECT-CT combines nuclear medicine SPECT, which shows how organs and tissues function, with CT imaging, which provides detailed anatomical images.

Meanwhile, the project also includes a full refurbishment of the scanning room.

The installation is part of the government’s $62.3m (NZ$108m) investment to deliver 32 new and replacement CT, MRI, and SPECT-CT scanners nationwide.
