New photon-counting CT scanner installed at Kenepuru Hospital

It is the second PCCT scanner to be installed in New Zealand.

A Photon Counting Computed Tomography (PCCT) scanner has been installed and is now operational at Kenepuru Hospital, expanding diagnostic imaging capacity for Porirua and nearby communities.

The new scanner allows specialists to detect minute structures and subtle cardiac abnormalities that were previously difficult or impossible to see.

The PCCT scanner is the second to be installed in New Zealand, following one commissioned at Christchurch Hospital in September.

A third one is expected to become operational at Wellington Regional Hospital by mid-2026.
