RBWH introduces casting technology to speed prosthetic fabrication

The tech allows patients to stand during casting, unlike traditional seated methods.

The Royal Brisbane and Women’s Hospital (RBWH) in Australia has introduced hydrostatic pressure casting technology to fabricate prosthetics for patients.

The technology enables patients to stand during casting, unlike traditional methods performed in a seated position.

“The main limitation is that the soft tissue changes shape under load, and this is difficult to replicate,” said RBWH Director of Orthotics and Prosthetics Jessica Angus.

The approach reduces potential errors in measurement, speeds up prosthetic fabrication, and lowers the number of appointments needed.
