
Eight Australian hospitals secure MERP funding for equipment upgrades
The investment supports ten equipment upgrade projects.
The Australian government has awarded $22.8m (A$35m) in funding to eight health services across Victoria as part of the latest round of the “Medical Equipment Replacement Program”.
The investment supports ten equipment upgrade projects in hospitals across the state.
Peter MacCallum Cancer Centre will use the funds to upgrade its diagnostic computer tomography unit to detect lung cancer in high-risk, asymptomatic patients.
The Royal Children’s Hospital will upgrade its ultrasonic aspirator for liver transplants and epilepsy surgeries in young patients.
Meanwhile, Alfred Health will receive funding for a wide-bore MRI scanner with bariatric capability and a stereotactic navigation system for complex neurosurgical procedures. Monash Health will upgrade its neurosurgical microscope and angiography system.
Other recipients include Austin Health for a new PET/CT unit, St Vincent's Hospital for an ear, nose and throat surgical navigation system, Royal Melbourne Hospital for a CT scanner, and Grampians Health for a SPECT-CT unit to support nuclear medicine services.
