Wellell develops air mattress to prevent bedsores
The company targets pressure injury prevention and caregiver relief.
Wellell is tackling pressure injuries among immobile and bedridden patients with a specially designed air mattress aimed at improving comfort and easing caregiver workload. Speaking at Medical Taiwan 2025, Gustavo Kao, Director of Regional Headquarters, outlined the company’s dual focus.
“We are experts in management of pressure injury,” Kao said. “One is to make sure that the patient can be well taken care of, especially in how to prevent formation of pressure injury. Second thing is how this design of the air mattress can help to reduce the workload of the caregivers.”
The product addresses a key issue in hospitals: how to manage long-term patient care efficiently. “We would like to make sure that our patient... can reduce their risk of developing pressure injury,” Kao explained. “And... how to reduce the workload of the caregivers by not allowing them to do a lot of manual work.”
Looking ahead, Kao emphasised the need for education to encourage adoption. “I think it's more on education, more on convincing the caregivers to adopt this kind of procedure... and to replicate the successful stories at different hospitals,” he said.
