Singapore adds special care dentistry as eighth dental speciality
The speciality focuses on treating adults with complex needs.
The Dental Specialists Accreditation Board (DSAB), supported by the Ministry of Health, has recognised special care dentistry as Singapore’s eighth dental speciality.
The DSAB will set professional standards and strengthen training requirements to ensure specialists meet quality care standards.
The other seven dental specialities are endodontics, oral & maxillofacial surgery, orthodontics, paediatric dentistry, periodontics, prosthodontics, and dental public health.
Special Care Dentistry focuses on treating adults who have significant physical, medical, developmental or cognitive conditions that limit their ability to receive routine care.
It is recognised as a speciality in Australia, Brazil, Brunei, Malaysia, New Zealand, and the United Kingdom.
