CooperVision strengthens myopia partnerships across Hong Kong, Taiwan

Collaboration, education, and public trust drive regional myopia management efforts.

CooperVision is expanding partnerships across Hong Kong and Taiwan to overcome persistent challenges in myopia management, with a focus on collaboration, education, and early intervention.

“To really move the needle effectively on the myopia epidemic, we need good clinical data and empirical understanding, not only of product efficacy, but also of effective diagnostic and treatment protocols in clinic,” said Dr. Dora Lui, General Manager, CooperVision Hong Kong and Taiwan, and Vice President, APAC Strategy.
“We need an enormous amount of collaboration between government bodies, professionals, academia as well as industry players, which is exactly the goal of APMMS today, bringing together different stakeholders, working together to advance the field of myopia management,” she told Healthcare Asia during the 2025 Asia-Pacific Myopia Management Symposium in Hong Kong.

Dr. Lui emphasised that early detection remains critical, especially in cultures where parents play a key role in care decisions. “The severity and risk of myopia has indeed garnered a lot of attention over the past few years. However, as we've seen time and again, in different disease areas, early detection and intervention is key, which is why public awareness is very important,” she said. “Parents need confidence, not only about the product's efficacy, but...the advice that they're getting, no matter if they're seeing their optometrist, their ophthalmologist, their pediatrician or family doctor.”

To build professional capacity, CooperVision is partnering with academic institutions to train the next generation of eye care professionals. “We actively partner with optometry schools around the world, like the Hong Kong Polytechnic University, to provide in-clinic training for contact lens fitting. We’re turning our focus to myopia control for young patients, so that young graduates...are equipped with the right tools and strategies,” Dr. Lui added.
