RS Persahabatan lands two wins at Healthcare Asia Awards 2025

It was recognised with the Employee Engagement of the Year - Indonesia and the Patient Care Initiative of the Year - Indonesia awards.

Government hospital RS Persahabatan took home two major wins at the prestigious Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 for its unique Cancer Patient Navigator Program (NAPAK) initiative that has improved access to effective services and care for cancer patients, as well as its employee engagement initiatives that have also impacted hospital performance positively.

The NAPAK initiative, which earned the hospital the Patient Care Initiative of the Year - Indonesia category win, aims to bridge the gap when it comes to the challenges being faced by cancer patients in accessing services and treatment.

As part of this initiative, RS Persahabatan has developed an application system that can be used to expedite the claims verification process without burdening the patients. This allows patients to come without bringing supporting documents, and enhances the paperless programme towards a green hospital.

NAPAK programme officers are healthcare professionals who have received a postgraduate degree in oncology navigation from the Tata Memorial Centre in India. Their role is crucial in enhancing patient safety.

With this initiative, the hospital has reduced the risk of medical errors due to miscommunication amongst healthcare professionals, ensured patients receive the right care, and helped patients overcome administrative barriers in managing complex medications, amongst others.

“Cancer patient navigation is an important component in efforts to improve patient safety. With good coordination and adequate support from the pharmacy unit, it can certainly have a significant positive impact on the ease of cancer patient services,” the company said.

Meanwhile, RS Persahabatan has also launched employee engagement programmes to develop the competency of health workers. As a Class A hospital, it is trusted to conduct competency assessments of health workers from government agencies. Information technology support for the competency development of health workers has also been carried out with the PRIMA application built by hospital IT personnel.

The hospital has seen improved hospital performance through the initiatives, including a 16% increase in the number of patients. In the past year, it has also recorded 76 researches, some of which were published in international journals.

This innovation in the health sector, in addition to improving clinical service governance, also provides self-awareness and understanding to the public about health and can be used by other health agencies in service governance.

“Strategies to face the fast-moving era of globalisation in the health sector require various efforts to develop and improve HR competencies as one of the important components needed to advance the latest technology-based health services,” the company said.

RS Persahabatan won the Employee Engagement of the Year - Indonesia for its employee engagement programme.
