Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi earns three wins at Healthcare Asia Awards 2025
It has set new standards in patient care, clinical outcomes, and innovation.
Private hospital ‘Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi’ received major accolades at Healthcare Asia Awards 2025 for its remarkable achievements in the past year, with efforts focussing on reducing environmental impacts, promoting sustainability, and transforming patient safety and orthopaedic care.
In 2024, the hospital made significant progress in energy management. It installed a Chiller Plant Management System (CPMS) to optimise electricity usage, lowering the energy consumption coefficient from 1.1 kW/ton to 0.9 kW/ton.
Additionally, Magnetic Bearing Chillers, known for their high energy efficiency, were implemented in the hospital. These efforts resulted in energy savings of 536,112 kWh annually and a reduction in greenhouse gas emissions by 274,114 kg CO2—equivalent to planting over 30,000 trees.
General waste was incinerated to generate refuse-derived fuel, whilst food waste was composted and used to feed animals. Recyclable waste was upcycled into new products, such as furniture and paper. This system led to a 551,357 kg CO2 equivalent reduction in emissions in 2024, which is the environmental benefit of planting 61,000 trees.
Meanwhile, Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi took a pioneering approach to waste management through its collaboration with SCGC, Baxter Healthcare, and Dynoflex. They launched Thailand’s first project to recycle used dialysis solution bags into high-quality PVC tiles. This project reused 5,320 dialysis bags to produce 9,000 square metres of tiles, which were later installed in the hospital.
Additionally, staff uniforms were made from recycled plastic bottles, reinforcing the hospital’s commitment to circular economy principles. The hospital also ran initiatives like the "Waste for Health" project, where local residents can exchange recyclable waste for health check-ups and provide health education and screenings for the elderly.
“It is committed to remaining flexible and dynamic, continuously seeking new opportunities to enhance its sustainability efforts. Its innovative strategies demonstrate how healthcare institutions can lead in both patient care and environmental responsibility, positioning the hospital as a model for others in the industry,” the company said.
Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi’s success in combining healthcare excellence with environmental responsibility brought it the winning of ESG Program of the Year - Thailand.
Integrating clinical decision support system
The hospital’s Heart and Vascular Centre also launched an innovative patient safety initiative to enhance care of patients with ST-Elevation Myocardial Infarction (STEMI).
It integrated Clinical Practice Guidelines (CPG) for STEMI into the hospital’s Health Information System using a cutting-edge Clinical Decision Support System (CDSS) to enhance diagnostic accuracy, reduce human error, and ensure timely interventions, aligning with the hospital's vision to become a smart hospital.
Prior to this, only 33.3% of STEMI patients received percutaneous coronary intervention (PCI) within the critical 90-minute window. Delays in diagnosis and treatment contributed to suboptimal outcomes despite the opening of a new catheterisation laboratory.
The CDSS provided real-time support for healthcare providers by offering diagnostic suggestions, generating treatment recommendations, and tracking key care milestones against set benchmarks. It flagged critical time points, such as ensuring ECG completion within 10 minutes and initiating PCI within the 90-minute window, to improve adherence to CPGs and enable faster decision-making.
Since the implementation of the patient safety initiative, the percentage of STEMI patients receiving PCI within the recommended time increased from 40% to 75% within 6 months. Additionally, misdiagnosis and mortality rates for STEMI patients dropped to 0%, demonstrating a positive impact on clinical outcomes.
This initiative stood out due to its innovative integration of state-of-the-art technology into routine clinical practice. The CDSS was not only designed to support decision-making but also had the flexibility to evolve with advancements in medical science, ensuring it remains effective as healthcare practices and technologies evolve.
Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi earned the Patient Safety Initiative of the Year - Thailand for this initiative.
“It demonstrates that integrating advanced technology into clinical workflows can significantly improve patient safety and care quality. This innovative project improves clinical outcomes and positions the hospital as a leader in healthcare innovation,” the company said.
Revolutionising orthopaedic care excellence
Meanwhile, Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi’s Prince of Bones campaign set new standards in orthopaedic patient care, gathering recognition for its technological advancements, improved clinical success rates, and exceptional patient satisfaction.
As part of the campaign, the hospital’s technological innovations included robotic-assisted surgeries, particularly in joint replacement and spine care, and the introduction of Total Disc Replacement for cervical spine surgeries.
It also implemented a state-of-the-art rehabilitation centre, blending Eastern philosophies with Western technologies. Key clinical achievements included an improved success rate in complex surgeries, a significant reduction in recovery time compared to traditional methods, and a zero surgical site infection rate.
The patient satisfaction rate stood at an impressive 98%, with high marks in treatment and service excellence.
This led to several transformative innovations, including the adoption of robotic-assisted joint replacement surgeries and digital tracking systems for monitoring patient recovery. The use of minimally invasive surgical methods, such as arthroscopic surgeries for knee, shoulder, and spine issues, has also revolutionised patient care by minimising incisions, reducing recovery times, and increasing safety.
At the same time, the hospital also introduced a comprehensive sports medicine programme and partnered with local sports organisations to prevent injuries and promote healthy living.
The hospital’s success in handling complex cases and growing its sports medicine programme had attracted a broader patient base, including international referrals. This growth has been further reflected in its increasing orthopaedic department revenue and expanding international patient revenue.
Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi has been active in community engagement, offering free orthopaedic consultations, conducting educational programmes, and partnering with local sports organisations to prevent injuries. It has also been instrumental in advancing professional development through training programmes and collaborations with expert orthopaedic centres.
To maintain its position as a leader in specialty orthopaedic clinics, the Prince of Bones campaign plans to expand research, telemedicine services, and specialised subspecialty offerings.
Princ Hospital Suvarnabhumi finally received the award of Specialty Clinic of the Year - Thailand.
