Australia invests $525m in John Hunter Hospital redevelopment
A new acute services building is expected to be completed by 2026.
The Australian government has invested $525m (A$835m) in the John Hunter Health and Innovation Precinct redevelopment in New South Wales.
The redevelopment will feature a new acute services building to increase the hospital’s intensive care unit (ICU) capacity by 60 per cent.
The establishment will include an emergency department to accommodate more than 95,000 patient presentations annually.
The project also includes 22 operating theatres, nine interventional suites, birthing suites, an inpatient maternity unit, a neonatal ICU, and a special care nursery.
The new building is expected to be completed by 2026.
