Australia’s Fairy Meadow ambulance station on track for completion

it will have features such as internal parking and wash bays, offices, staff rest areas, a gym, and logistics storage.

Fairy Meadow is set to welcome its first purpose-built ambulance station, located at the University of Wollongong's Innovation Campus, the Australian government announced.

Local paramedics are expected to receive the keys to the new facility soon, with construction nearing completion.

The ambulance station will feature internal parking bays, an internal wash bay, administration and office areas, staff rest facilities, a gym, and logistics and storage areas. On-site parking will also be available for staff and emergency vehicles.

As the construction phase wraps up, landscaping and finishing touches will commence in the coming months.

A key focus during this period will be finalising the IT infrastructure and cabling systems, ensuring seamless connectivity for efficient operations.

“Fairy Meadow’s new ambulance station will provide paramedics with a high-quality base with the latest facilities and equipment to meet the current and future emergency care needs of the local community,” said Health Minister Ryan Park.

The station is part of the NSW government's $160.5m (AUD$232m) Rural Ambulance Infrastructure Reconfiguration program, which includes 54 new or upgraded stations, marking the largest infrastructure investment in NSW Ambulance's nearly 130-year history.

The NSW Government is also recruiting 2,500 additional staff, including paramedics and support personnel, to improve response times and meet growing demand. Additional ambulance stations are planned for Warilla and Unanderra as part of the $425.7m (AUD$615.5m) NSW Ambulance Infrastructure Program.

Expressions of Interest for suitable sites for the new Unanderra ambulance station will be accepted until 3 PM on Thursday, 10 October.
