Philippines to launch speciality centres for cancer care

Part of the initiative includes the development of the UP-PGH Cancer Centre.

The Philippine government is set to establish speciality centres dedicated to treating cancer patients.

Part of this initiative includes the ongoing development of the University of the Philippines (UP)-Philippine General Hospital (PGH) Cancer Centre.

With an estimated project cost of $162.6m (PHP9.49b), the upcoming 300-bed facility will feature a 150-bed PGH area dedicated to free clinical services.

In line with this, the Philippine Cancer Centre of the Department of Health (DOH) has recently broken ground last March.

“These centres will be a Godsend to the more than four hundred thousand Filipinos who are afflicted with this deadly disease,” President Ferdinand Marcos Jr said during the third State of the Nation Address (SONA).
